Caring For Young Pets

To help your new pet thrive in your home, we encourage you to learn about right nutrition, vaccinations, parasite prevention, neutering/spaying, and dental health.

Since the immunity that a kitten or a puppy receive from their mother's milk wears off after a while, vaccinations are crucial to their health. Some of the essantial vaccines we offer to puppies include :

  • Rabies
  • DA2PPV (Distemper, Adenovirus types 1&2, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus, Lepto)
  • Bordetella (Required for Grooming your pet)
  • Lyme

Kittens benefit greatly from vaccinations as well, and we offer some essential vaccines for them:

  • FVRCP (Feline VIral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia)
  • Felv
  • Fip
  • Rabies

Another advantageous vaccine for kittens that is offered at our clinic is FeLV (Feline Leukimia). Please keep in mind that spaying/neutering your pet is highly recommended to preserve their health. Spaying is done on female dogs and cats, and includes surgical removal of the uterus and ovaries, and neutering is applicable to male dogs and cats, and it includes the surgical removal of the testicles. The recommended age to obtain these procedures is 6 months for male and female dogs and cats, or before a female pet enters its first heat cycle. Contrary to popular misconceptions, they do not lead to any changes in a pet's behavior, character, intelligence, weight, or activity level. However, there are several important advantages to giving this treatment to your puppy or kitten, including:

  • Females- lower risk of breast cancer,eliminated risk of ovarian and uterine cancers, and eliminated risk of unwanted pregnancy;
  • Males- lower risk of prostate cancer and behavioral problems, as well as eliminated risk of testicular cancer.

Right nutrition of your kitten or puppy is very important to their health as well, and will depend on their daily activities. The recommended dosage given on the food packaging is usually safe to follow, however, we are here to help you determine the best meal plan for your pet.

Adult Cats and Dogs

As your pet grows, their healthcare needs might change. To ensure that your animal is in optimal health, we offer professional dental care, laboratory testing and physical exams that could reveal any areas of concern or simply maintain your pet in a great shape. Some of the wellness products that we also suggest are preventive against parasites, ticks, and fleas.

Vaccines for Adult Cats

Since some of the illnesses cats experience could be transfered to humans, vaccinations are essential to both your adult cat- and you. The basic immunizations in this age are against rabies, FVRCP (feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia), and FeLV (feline leukemia), the last one being optional.

Vaccines for Adult Dogs

Just as in the case with adult cats, some of the canine diseases could be transfered to humans. Therefore, it is extremely important that you keep your adult dog's vaccinations up-to-date. The necessary vaccines offer protection against rabies, DA2PPV (distemper, adenovirus Types 1 &2, parainfluenza, parvovirus), bordetella. You may want to consider vaccinations against leptospirosis, canine influenza, and Lyme disease.

Healthy nutrition, as always, is paramount to your pet's well-being. Keep an eye on the portions you give to your adult cat or dog, as well as the composition of the food. Once you bring in your furry one for a physical exam or any other visit, we will be able to see if their coat and overall health are good.

Caring for Senior Pets

Having a dog or cat that is 8 years of age or older is really special, and we are ready to provide you with the assistance you may need. A pet's life span is a lot shorter than a human's, so when having adult pets, we need to be mindful of such issues as thyroid and heart desease, as well as kidney problems. Prevention is always more beneficial than treatment- and less expensive. Hence, we recommend giving your pet a regular comprehensive health profile, which includes a blood test, dental health screening, imaging to reveal bladder or kidney stones, organ enlargements, tumors, lung or heart desease. We are also more than happy to advise you on the current vaccines your mature pet may need, as well as the nutrition they require at this stage in their life.
